Hi there, I’m Sarah

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you! It's always nice to know who you're working with, so here's a little about me.

Woman, short brown/red hair, smiling with braces, wearing white shirt with black stripes.

Bio

I have worked in education for over a decade in various roles including teaching and related services in K-12 education, including teaching American Sign Language (ASL) in K-12 schools.

I grew up in a hearing family with English as my first language. However, as I got older, I realized that I had several family members who were hard of hearing or deaf who did not know American Sign Language and had no other form of communication to use when they began losing their hearing.

Seeing this happen to my own family, I chose to take ASL when I began college. Fast forward a few years and I am so glad  I did!

I, too, have inherited the genetic hearing loss that runs in my family. I have reverse-slope sensorineural hearing loss; this means that I have lost hearing in the lower-pitch ranges and this impacts my ability to understand speech at times, along with my ability to hear other sounds that fall within those ranges. I am hard of hearing and use hearing aids to be able to participate in spoken conversations. I also use ASL to communicate with those around me who are familiar with the language.

I have obtained several degrees throughout my college career including:

- Associate of Arts

- Associate of Applied Science in American Sign Language Interpreting

- Bachelor's of Science in Applied Psychology: Social and Behavioral Sciences

- Master's of Science in Special Education

- Master's of Science in Business Psychology

I have a passion for teaching, collaborating, and building strong learning communities. Together we can build a truly positive, collaborative learning environment.

In my personal life, I am happily married and we share our home with our three dogs. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, reading, video games, and crafting. I love ASL and look forward to sharing this beautiful language, and the culture it is a part of, with you.
